An Air India flight arriving from Kochi veered off the runway while landing at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Monday morning due to heavy rainfall in the city.

Flight AI 2744, an Airbus A320 (VT-TYA), touched down in challenging weather conditions around 9:27 AM. Shortly after landing, the aircraft reportedly veered off the main runway (09/27). According to early reports, three of the plane’s tyres burst during the incident, and there may be minor damage to one of the engines.

Despite the scare, the aircraft managed to taxi safely to the terminal gate. All passengers and crew disembarked without injury.

Air India confirmed the incident in an official statement:

"Flight AI2744, operating from Kochi to Mumbai on 21 July 2025, experienced heavy rain during landing, resulting in a runway excursion after touchdown. The aircraft taxied safely to the gate, and all passengers and crew members have since disembarked. The aircraft has been grounded for checks. The safety of passengers and crew remains our top priority," said an airline spokesperson.

Emergency response teams at CSMIA were immediately deployed to handle the situation. A spokesperson for the airport said:

"An incoming aircraft from Kochi experienced a runway excursion at CSMIA at 09:27 hours. Emergency teams responded swiftly. All passengers and crew are safe. The main runway (09/27) has sustained minor damage and is being inspected and repaired. To maintain operations, the secondary runway (14/32) has been activated. At CSMIA, safety always remains our highest priority."
