In response to the devastating floods ravaging Punjab, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj, the acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, has issued an appeal to the people of Punjab to stand together in this hour of crisis.

Emphasizing the values of compassion, unity, and community, he urged Punjabis to ensure that no one is left hungry or homeless in the wake of the disaster.

The floods have caused widespread destruction, damaging homes, crops, and livestock, leaving many families in distress. The Jathedar highlighted Punjab’s long-standing tradition of mutual support during challenging times, calling on individuals and organizations to extend help to those affected. “No Punjabi should go hungry, no livestock should be left without fodder, and every affected family must have shelter and support,” he said, stressing the need for continued assistance even after the floodwaters recede, as new challenges are likely to emerge.

In addition to relief efforts, the Jathedar called for a thorough investigation into the recurring floods in Punjab. Noting that the state faced a similar calamity in 2023, he emphasized the need to identify the root causes of these disasters. “Why does river water continue to inundate the plains? The truth must be brought to light so that Punjab can prepare and prevent such crises in the future,” he stated.

Drawing on Sikh teachings, the Jathedar underscored the importance of living in harmony with nature. “Our Gurus taught us to respect and protect the environment. By adhering to these principles, we can overcome this crisis with unity and divine grace,” he said.

He also appealed to religious and social organizations to continue their humanitarian efforts relentlessly, ensuring that aid reaches all those in need. The Jathedar’s message serves as a call to action for Punjabis to unite, support one another, and work toward a sustainable future to mitigate such natural calamities.
