Assam Man Reportedly Goes Missing After Being Slapped During Panic Attack on IndiGo Mumbai-Kolkata Flight
The missing youth, Hossain Ahmed Mazumdar, a gym trainer working in Mumbai, was on his way home to Katigorah when the incident took place.
A young gym trainer from Assam’s Cachar district has gone missing under troubling circumstances after reportedly suffering a panic attack and being slapped by a fellow passenger on an IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Kolkata.
The missing man, Hossain Ahmed Mazumdar, was traveling home to Katigorah and was supposed to catch a connecting flight from Kolkata to Silchar. But according to his family, he never arrived—and no one has seen or heard from him since.
His family, who had gathered at the Silchar airport to receive him, became alarmed when he failed to show up. Their concern deepened when they were unable to reach him by phone, which they now believe he may have accidentally left behind in Mumbai.
“We’ve contacted local police, even visited the Udharband police station near the airport, but there’s been no information,” said Zubairul Islam Mazumdar, a relative. “We’re completely in the dark. His father is seriously ill, and this has shattered him.”
What Happened Onboard the Flight?
The incident that has since gone viral on social media shows Hossain visibly distressed, reportedly experiencing a panic attack while cabin crew were assisting him back to his seat. Suddenly, without warning or provocation, a co-passenger slapped him across the face.
The shocking assault drew protests from both flight attendants and fellow passengers. It was caught on video and widely shared online, raising questions about the treatment of people in distress in public spaces.
IndiGo Responds
In a public statement on X (formerly Twitter), IndiGo acknowledged the incident, calling it "unacceptable."
“We are aware of an incident involving a physical altercation on board one of our flights. Such unruly behavior is completely unacceptable, and we strongly condemn any actions that compromise the safety and dignity of our passengers and crew,” the airline said.
IndiGo stated that the individual who slapped Hossain was identified as unruly and handed over to security authorities upon landing. The airline added that all necessary regulatory agencies had been informed, as per protocol.
Still Missing, Family Desperate for Answers
While IndiGo claims that standard procedures were followed, Hossain’s whereabouts remain unknown. His family is now pleading for a transparent investigation, demanding access to CCTV footage, airport security logs, or any records that could help trace his movements after the flight landed in Kolkata.
“He was coming home to see his father, who’s battling cancer,” said one relative. “Now we don’t know where he is or if he’s safe.”
