Following the tragic crash of a Bangladesh Air Force training jet into Milestone School and College in Dhaka, Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government, has expressed deep sorrow.

According to reports, the incident, which happened on Monday in the Uttara neighbourhood of Diabari, left at least 19 people dead and more than 100 injured.In a statement, Yunus called the crash an “irreparable loss” for the victims, their families, and the entire nation. “I express deep shock and sorrow over the tragic incident of the Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BGI training aircraft crash on the campus of Milestone School and College today. The loss suffered by the air force personnel, students, parents, teachers, and school staff is beyond measure. This is a moment of deep grief for the nation,” he said.

Military and fire service officials confirmed that the aircraft crashed into the school grounds while classes and exams were underway. The F-7 BGI jet, used for training purposes, had taken off from a nearby airbase at 1:06 pm before it went down.

Yunus’s office also confirmed that more than 83 people are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals. In response to the emergency, an official hotline has been activated at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery to assist victims and their families. The emergency contact number is 01949043697.

The government has yet to announce the cause of the crash, and an investigation is expected to follow.
