Bihar Approves 149 New Buses to Ease Interstate Travel for Migrant Workers
Cabinet sanctions Rs 105.82 crore for AC and non-AC buses targeting Delhi, UP, Punjab routes;

With the aim of strengthening the public transport system for the operation of buses on interstate routes, the Bihar government is going to provide easy travel facilities to the workers of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and West Bengal after mutual agreement with other states. The state cabinet has approved this proposal of the Transport Department on Tuesday. Apart from this, the public transport system will be strengthened for the operation of buses on interstate routes.
Dr. S Siddharth, Additional Chief Secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat Department, said that to facilitate the travel of workers, the Cabinet has approved the proposal of the state government to purchase 74 non-AC (deluxe) and 75 AC (deluxe) buses. For the purchase of a total of 74 non-AC buses, an assistance grant of Rs 50.32 crore has been approved to the Transport Corporation at the rate of Rs 68 lakh per bus. Whereas an assistance grant of Rs 55.50 crore has been approved to the Transport Corporation for 75 AC buses. It is noteworthy that the workers of Bihar have to face a lot of trouble in coming to their homes from other states of the country on the occasion of festivals. S. Siddhartha said that it has been decided to provide an incentive of Rs. 20 lakh per bus to the private bus operators on the purchase of a total of 150 new AC buses (44 seater sleeper) under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode for operating buses on inter-state routes.
