The “Pond Fisheries Special Assistance Scheme” being run by the state government with the aim of developing fisheries as an organized, prosperous and self-reliant enterprise is proving to be a big gift for the fish farmers of Bihar. This scheme is being implemented across the state by the Directorate of Fisheries under the Department of Animal and Fisheries Resources.

Under this scheme, special assistance is being provided to fish farmers of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Extremely Backward Classes. In this, grants are being provided in the form of “package assistance” including construction of rearing pond, boring, installation of pumpset/submersible pump, shed construction, mechanical aerator, fish input etc.

70 percent amount is being provided as grant to the selected beneficiary fish farmers of the state against the fixed unit cost of ₹ 10.10 lakh per acre of water area. The remaining 30 percent amount will be borne by the beneficiary himself or through bank loan. This is providing an opportunity to small and marginal fish farmers to adopt fish farming as an economically profitable business.

For detailed information about the benefits and process associated with this scheme, interested beneficiaries can visit https://state.bihar.gov.in/ahd/CitizenHome.html or contact their respective District Fisheries Office.

The “Pond Fisheries Special Assistance Scheme” is not only promoting the fish production of the state, but is also emerging as an effective initiative towards increasing the income and improving the standard of living of fish farmers. This initiative of the government is laying the foundation for the bright future of the fish industry in Bihar.
