Now the age of 85 big bridges in the state will increase. For this, the state government took a historic initiative on Tuesday. An agreement was signed on Tuesday between Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation Limited and IIT Delhi and IIT Patna for the safety audit of bridges and development of Bridge Information and Management System. The related program was organized in the auditorium of Bihar State Path Vikas Nigam.

In this matter, Road Construction Minister Nitin Naveen said that with this partnership we will be able to work together on other important tasks including assessing the condition of bridges, identifying serious deficiencies in bridge structure, developing targeted maintenance and repair strategy. This MoU is an important step towards ensuring the safety and reliability of the infrastructure of bridges, which is very important for the economic and social development of our state.

There are a total of 3968 bridges in the state, out of which 532 have been placed in the large category. In the first phase, safety audit of 85 of these bridges will be done. This work is being done through Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation Limited. The audit process will reveal the actual condition of the bridges built in the state and they can be repaired and made fully usable. IIT Patna and IIT Delhi will provide health reports of 85 bridges in a year.

Approval has been given to conduct independent third party bridge safety audit of 85 important bridges of more than 250 meters length on the roads located under the Road Construction Department, for which administrative approval of 17 crores has been provided by the Road Construction Department. IIT Patna has been entrusted with the task of auditing 45 bridges. At the same time, IIT Delhi has been entrusted with the safety audit of 40 bridges.

Minister Naveen said that under the Bihar State Bridge Management and Maintenance Policy-2025, regular maintenance of all bridges / culverts will be done. With the implementation of this policy, continuous maintenance will significantly reduce the cost of repair and the condition of bridges / culverts will remain good. Bihar State Bridge Management and Maintenance Policy-2025 has been implemented after the approval of the Cabinet for the maintenance and management of the constructed bridge structures for their full utility in the defined life span. This policy has been prepared in accordance with the bridge maintenance provisions. The state's Bihar State Bridge Management and Maintenance Policy-2025 is the first such policy implemented by any state in India.

Under this policy, for the first time, Bridge Health Index and Maintenance Priority Index will be prepared to measure the structural quality of each bridge through techniques like visual inspection, non-destructive testing, sensor technology and drone camera. A 'Health Card' will be prepared on the basis of this data, which will make timely maintenance possible.
