Bihar Police Honored by Centre for 12-Day Passport Verification Service
Ministry of External Affairs awards recognition as state targets single-digit processing time;

Bihar Police has been honored for doing passport verification service in the state in a very short time i.e. just 12 days. The police department has been honored with 'Certificate of Recognition' by the Union Ministry of External Affairs. IG (Headquarters) Rakesh Rathi has been sent to New Delhi by the police department to receive this honor. This information was given by ADG (Special Branch) Sunil Kumar in a press conference held in the auditorium at the Police Headquarters on Tuesday. He said that a target has been set to reduce this time limit of passport verification to less than 10 days i.e. in single digit. All the police stations have been specially instructed to achieve this target soon. In Bihar, last year in 2024, 4 lakh 38 thousand 994 applications were received for making passports. All these were verified in an average of 12 days. For this reason, the police department is getting this honor from the Center. For the last five financial years, Bihar has been providing passport service on time. ADG Sunil Kumar said that all the 1128 police stations of the state have been given a special tab for passport verification. This new verification system has been implemented from the year 2021. Earlier, passport verification used to take 30 days. He said that the highest number of applications for passport making came in Siwan, 63 thousand. After this, 52 thousand in Gopalganj, 40 thousand in Patna, apart from West Champaran, East Champaran also receive a large number of applications. The least number of applications come in Khagaria district. Because of this, verification takes only 5 days here.
Now passports with chips will be available
ADG Shri Kumar said that now all the passports made after May 2025 will have chips. Provision has been made to give passports with chips. All kinds of information from immigration to other things will be uploaded in this special type of chip. Information about all things can be collected by scanning it. He said that as per the provision of the Center, Bihar Police is provided a reimbursement amount of Rs 150 per application for passport verification or making in less than 15 days. Last year, Rs 19 crore 89 lakh has been received in this item. Taking the name of Bihar's passport officer Swadha Rizvi, ADG Sunil Kumar said that in collaboration with the regional passport office, arrangements are also being made for training related to this for the police.
