BJP–RSS Plan Major Hindu Convention in Lucknow as Yogi Prepares to Lead Hindutva Push for 2027
At a high-level coordination meeting, leaders discussed electoral roll revision, organisational changes, and a centenary-year Hindu convention aimed at unifying Hindu society and projecting Yogi Adityanath as the central face ahead of the UP elections.
More than a year ahead of the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP, RSS, and the Yogi government are preparing a blueprint for a joint Hindu convention in Lucknow. A senior state BJP leader said that preparations are underway to present Chief Minister Yogi as the leading face of Hindutva at this Hindu convention, to be held to mark the RSS centenary year.
A discussion to hold such a big Hindu convention took place during a coordination meeting between the BJP and RSS on Monday evening. The BJP leader said, "The meeting also discussed the methodology related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Discussions focused on alerting MLAs who are showing little activity in the SIR and activating government, organization, and RSS officials."
It was agreed, the BJP leader said, that ministers in charge should also hold coordination meetings with RSS officials after departmental meetings in districts.
The meeting also included preliminary discussions on potential changes in the government and organization in the coming days. Issues such as the election of the state BJP president and potential cabinet changes are being discussed and a report is being submitted to the top leadership.
According to sources within the BJP, the announcement of a new state president is expected before December 14, but cabinet expansion is likely to take place only after Makar Sankranti. Although this was the first special coordination meeting since August 2024, the party's commitment to Mission 2027 was clarified.
Sources said preparations are also underway for a major Hindu convention in Lucknow. The rationale behind this is that the Sangh is working on a strategy to create a broad unity while reducing caste divisions within Hindu society.
RSS co-Sarkaryavah Arun Kumar and BJP national general secretary (organization) BL Santosh were also present with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at the two-hour meeting held at the Chief Minister's residence late Monday evening.
In addition to Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, Anil Kumar, area Pracharak for eastern Uttar Pradesh, Mahendra Kumar, area Pracharak for western UP, state BJP president Bhupendra Chaudhary, and general secretary (organization) Dharampal Singh were also present.
Before the meeting at Yogi's residence, Arun Kumar and BL Santosh met several leaders at Bharti Bhawan (the Sangh office) and gathered feedback on the political and organizational situation in the state.
According to sources tied to the Sangh, the closed-door meeting with the area pracharaks from eastern and western Uttar Pradesh included detailed discussions on topics such as branch expansion, volunteer activism, and social harmony.
Feedback received from the Sangh's labour, education, business, and other groups was also presented to the Chief Minister, so that the government could respond to ground needs. The meeting also indicated that long-standing and experienced BJP workers may soon be included in corporations, commissions, and boards.
According to political analysts, coordination meetings have been taking place between representatives of various affiliate organizations of the Sangh and the Uttar Pradesh government ahead of the 2027 assembly elections. The Sangh is assessing the government's policies at the grassroots level so that it can reach out to the public.
