BRS Suspends K Kavitha Over 'Anti-Party Activities' After Explosive Allegations Against Party Leaders
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has suspended MLC K Kavitha, citing her recent conduct and anti-party activities as harmful to the party’s interests.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Tuesday suspended MLC K Kavitha from the party, citing her "recent behaviour" and "ongoing anti-party activities." The decision was announced in an official statement by the party, with BRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) ordering her suspension with immediate effect.
"The party leadership is taking this matter seriously, as MLC K Kavitha's recent behaviour and actions are causing damage to the BRS. President K. Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to suspend her from the party with immediate effect," the statement read.
The dramatic move came just hours after Kavitha publicly levelled serious allegations against her cousins—former irrigation minister T. Harish Rao and former MP J. Santosh Rao. She accused them of amassing vast assets while allegedly making her father, KCR, the scapegoat in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project scam, now under investigation by the CBI.
In a scathing attack, Kavitha questioned the very relevance of the party. “When KCR himself is forced to face a CBI inquiry, does it even matter whether BRS survives or not?” she said.
Kavitha didn’t hold back in her accusations, claiming Harish Rao and Santosh Rao were the real architects behind the alleged irregularities in the multi-crore irrigation project. “They were in charge of key parts of the Kaleshwaram project and built massive wealth under KCR’s nose. They are the anacondas of corruption,” she alleged.
Kavitha has been at odds with the party for some time now. She was arrested by the CBI in connection with the Delhi liquor policy scam and spent nearly six months in jail—from March 16 to August 24, 2024. After a four-month period of political silence, she returned to public life and began working independently on OBC-related issues, further straining her relationship with the party leadership.
