Centre imposes five-year ban on two Jammu and Kashmir organisations
Awami Action Committee and Jammu and Kashmir Ittehadul Muslimeen declared unlawful under UAPA, 1967
The Government of India on Tuesday, announced a five-year ban on two Jammu and Kashmir organizations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967. These organizations are- Awami Action Committee (AAC) led by Omar Farooq and Jammu and Kashmir Ittehadul Muslimeen (JKIM) led by Masroor Abbas Ansari.
According to a notification issued by the Union Home Ministry, members of the Awami Action Committee have been involved in terrorist activities and anti-India propaganda to promote separatism in Jammu and Kashmir. The notification said that this organization is also involved in illegal activities, which are harmful to the integrity, sovereignty and security of the country.
In another notification, the ministry said that JKIM is also involved in illegal activities, which are harmful to the integrity, sovereignty and security of the country.
It has been said that the members of the organization have been found involved in terrorist activities and anti-India propaganda to promote separatism in Jammu and Kashmir. Both the notifications said that considering all the available facts, the Ministry of Home Affairs has declared both organizations as banned organizations for five years under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
