CM Sukhu Launches Reward Scheme, Vows Mission-Level Fight to Eliminate Chitta in Himachal

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday announced a reward scheme to strengthen the state’s anti-drug campaign, focusing particularly on the eradication of chitta and other narcotics.

The announcement came during an Anti-Chitta Awareness Walkathon in Dharamshala, which was led by Sukhu, sending out a strong message of the state government’s determination to eradicate chitta and all forms of narcotics from Himachal Pradesh.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from schoolchildren, youth, and citizens from various sections of society.

The walkathon began at Dari Ground and concluded at the Police Ground. Carrying placards and raising anti-drug slogans, the participants highlighted the collective resolve for a drug-free Himachal.

Sukhu interacted with the students and encouraged the younger generation to take an active stand in the fight against drugs.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the future of the youth from the threat of chitta and psychotropic substances.

Addressing a massive gathering at the Police Ground, the Chief Minister issued a stern warning to the chitta mafia and stated that drug peddlers would find no place to hide in Devbhoomi.

He said that although the PIT-NDPS Act had remained unused for years, the present government has now implemented it effectively, resulting in the detention of 46 major traffickers.

He added that the government had already confiscated illegal properties worth Rs. 46 crore, proving its resolve to cripple the drug network financially.

Sukhu emphasised that the ongoing campaign was not merely an awareness drive but a mission-level battle against the entire drug mafia and the ecosystem supporting it.

Anyone found selling drugs to children would face strict legal action, he said, adding that the government was committed to eliminating every trace of chitta from the state.

The Chief Minister highlighted that agencies such as the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Special Task Force (STF), the police, education, health and social justice departments were now working in close coordination.

Sukhu said he stood not just as a Chief Minister but as a protector of the state’s youth.

He stated that despite challenges, when the government came to power, it confronted them head-on and successfully broke the backbone of several inter-state drug networks.

Seeking active cooperation from citizens, Sukhu announced a reward scheme for those providing credible information on individuals involved in the chitta trade.

The rewards include Rs. 10,000 for up to 2 grams of chitta, Rs. 25,000 for 5 grams, Rs. 50,000 for up to 25 grams, Rs. 5 lakh for up to 1 kg and Rs. 10 lakh for more than 1 kg. Rewards above Rs.5 lakh would be given for information leading to the busting of major networks. Information may be shared through the emergency number 112.

The Chief Minister also administered an anti-drug pledge to the youth.
