Congress Policies Kept Northeast Backward, Says PM Modi at Guwahati Airport's New Terminal Inauguration
Inaugurating the new Guwahati airport terminal, Modi accuses past Congress governments of neglect, appeasement politics and failing to protect Assam’s identity, while highlighting BJP’s push for development and security in the region.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that the security, unity and sovereignty of the country has to suffer a lot due to the Congress government's policy of keeping development away from the North East states.
Modi said this while addressing a public rally on the occasion of inaugurating the new terminal of the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International airport at Guwahati. The PM is on a two-day visit to Assam. He also unveiled a statue of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi, the first chief Minister of Assam at the new terminal of the airport.
Blaming Congress governments in Assam of the past for the state's backwardness, the PM said that the subsequent Congress governments in Assam failed to stop the violence that continues in the region.
"Within eleven years time, our government is moving fast towards ending the violence in the region. The places in Assam which were known for violence, are now marching ahead with connectivity," he said.
"Congress has done another conspiracy. After independence, the Congress, to secure it's vote banks resorted to religious appeasement. In Bengal and Assam, Congress has supported the infiltrators. They conspired to change the demography of Assam," said Modi.
"It is due to this conspiracy that infiltrators have captured lands and jungles of Assam posing security threat and jeopardising the Assamese identity. Now it the the Himanta Biswa Sarma government who had been working hard to reclaim those lands from the illegal infiltrators," he said adding that the BJP government has been trying to ensure that Assam's lands and resources are for use to the people of Assam only.
The Prime Minister said that while the BJP government at the Centre has also been trying to identify these infiltrators the Congress and INDI Alliance is openly supporting these infiltrarltors.
The Congress and iNDI Alliance even opposed the Supreme Court judgements on these infiltrators, he said adding that this is the reason the Congress and the INDI Alliance has been opposing the special intensive review (SIR) of the electoral rolls being conducted by the Election Commission of India.
"The anti-national attitude of the Congress could lead to the days of violence again. The Congress would never think of Assamese identity but would settle infiltrators in the lands and resources of Assamese people," he said adding that the BJP governments at Delhi and Dispur have been working hard to secure the identity of the Assamese people
"Development of Assam and North East were never in the agenda of Congress governments in Assam. Congress used to say why northeast needs better roads, airport and railway, who go there? For this thinking North East had remained neglected for decades," he said adding Modi is correcting all the mistakes committed by the Congress in the seven decades, they have ruled the region.
It may be mentioned here that the Prime Minister arrived in Assam on Saturday. The BJP in Assam have organized a massive road show from the airport to the party headquarters at Basistha, which was attended by about a lakh people.
