Court Issues Fresh Summons to Kangana Ranaut in Bathinda Defamation Case
Actor-MP skips hearing in case filed by farmer protester Mahinder Kaur; complainant seeks seizure of her passport.
Bollywood actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut did not appear before a Bathinda court today in connection with a defamation case filed against her.
The court has now issued orders to serve a fresh summons to Ranaut through the Bathinda Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).
The case stems from a complaint lodged by Mahinder Kaur, a resident of Bahadurgarh Jandian village in Bathinda, who alleged that Ranaut posted defamatory remarks on social media during the period when the central government introduced contentious agricultural laws.
Kaur claimed that Ranaut’s post suggested that women like her participated in protests for monetary incentives, specifically mentioning "100-100 rupees."
The defamation case has been ongoing since the allegations surfaced.
Advocate Raghuvir Singh Behniwal, representing the complainant, stated that an application will be filed in court requesting that Ranaut’s passport be seized by the embassy and held during the investigation to prevent her from travelling abroad.
Behniwal further noted that Ranaut had previously approached the Supreme Court to quash the case, but the apex court declined her plea. Following her failure to appear in court, a new hearing date has been set, and a summons will be issued through the Bathinda SSP.
The case continues to draw attention as it highlights tensions surrounding Ranaut’s public statements during the farmers’ protests.
Further developments are awaited as the court proceedings progress.
