Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Attacked During Public Hearing at Civil Lines Residence
Man slaps Chief Minister at 8:30 am during grievance session; attacker detained as police probe motive
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked this morning during a public hearing at her Civil Lines residence. The incident took place around 8:30 am, when a man from the crowd handed over a piece of paper to the CM and suddenly slapped her.
Security personnel immediately overpowered the assailant and took him into custody. The Delhi Police have begun an investigation and said that the motive behind the attack will only be known after interrogation. The identity of the accused has not yet been revealed.
Following the incident, several senior police officials and leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rushed to the CM’s residence. The BJP has strongly condemned the attack on the Chief Minister.
In a statement, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) confirmed the incident: “During today’s public hearing, a person attacked Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The accused has been caught by Delhi Police and is being questioned.”
Police are probing whether the attacker acted out of personal grievance or if the incident was part of a larger conspiracy.
The attack occurred at the newly established ‘Mukhyamantri Janseva Sadan’ camp office on Rajnivas Marg in Civil Lines, which was recently set up to facilitate public hearings. Citizens visit the venue to raise grievances, which are then forwarded to concerned departments for redressal.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
