First-Year Law Student Shoots Classmate Dead, Turns Gun on Himself in Tarn Taran
In a horrifying incident inside a Tarn Taran law college, a first-year student shot dead his classmate before turning the weapon on himself, sending panic across the campus on Monday.
The shocking crime took place at Usma Law College, leaving students and faculty stunned by the sudden gunshots.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police Surendra Lamba, the deceased female student has been identified as Sandeep Kaur. The accused, Prince Raj Singh, allegedly opened fire on Sandeep inside the college campus before shooting himself in the head.
Both students were in their first semester at the college.
Sandeep Kaur died on the spot while Prince Raj was found critically injured and rushed to hospital, where his condition remained extremely serious at the time of reporting.
There are conflicting reports about Prince Raj's condition. Nachhattar Singh, the sarpanch of Mallian village where the boy lived, claimed that the youth has died. However, police maintain he is still in critical condition.
The village sarpanch revealed that Prince Raj's father serves in the Army and had left for duty 15-20 days ago after spending holidays at home. Only the mother and son were staying in the house.
SSP Lamba said police have begun a detailed investigation into the motive behind the murder-suicide attempt.
"CCTV footage from the college is being obtained, statements of students and staff are being recorded, and all angles are being examined," he stated.
Police teams rushed to the campus immediately after the incident. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear as investigators work to piece together events leading to the tragedy.
