Haryana Protests Intensify as Police Fail to Solve Teacher's Murder After Five Days
Manisha's family refuses to claim body while demonstrations spread across Bhiwani, Panipat, Jhajjar as protesters demand swift justice
Widespread protests have erupted across Haryana following the unresolved murder of a female teacher, Manisha, whose body was found in Bhiwani on August 14, 2025. Five days later, the police have yet to identify or apprehend the culprits, fueling public anger.
Manisha’s family has refused to claim her body and has been on a sit-in protest.
Demonstrations have spread to districts including Panipat, Jhajjar, Jind, and Fatehabad, with protesters, including student organizations, demanding swift justice. In Bhiwani, students from Rajiv Gandhi Women’s College blocked the Bhiwani-Hansi road, though they later cleared it after police intervention.
Protesters have dismissed the suspension of a few police officers as inadequate, demanding the arrest and severe punishment of the perpetrators. They have also criticized the Haryana government for its handling of the case.
Chief Minister Nayab Saini addressed the issue, stating, “The police are investigating the case with impartiality and urgency. A detailed report will be released soon, and the strictest action will be taken against the guilty.”
Yesterday, a meeting between the administration and a committee representing the protesters took place, after which neither Manisha’s family nor protest leaders spoke to the media. They have given the administration until 4 pm today to provide updates, with plans to hold a press conference afterward.
The case now hinges on critical forensic evidence. After an initial postmortem at Bhiwani Civil Hospital, a second autopsy was conducted by a panel of three doctors at Rohtak PGI. Ten samples from the body have been sent for analysis, and reports from PGI and the Madhuban Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) are expected to play a pivotal role in the investigation.
