Delhi was hit hard by heavy rainfall on Monday, causing widespread waterlogging and severe traffic jams across the city. The downpour disrupted not just road travel, but also metro services and flights, throwing daily life out of gear.

A technical glitch on the Delhi Metro’s Blue Line — between Rajiv Chowk and Noida Electronic City — added to commuter woes. This marked the third metro snag in just one week, with the Yellow Line also facing delays and leading to overcrowding at several stations.

The weather chaos came as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a ‘yellow’ alert for rain in Delhi on Monday evening. A flood warning was also sounded for areas along the Yamuna floodplains after 3.29 lakh cusecs of water were released from the Hathnikund barrage earlier in the day.

Waterlogged Streets: Major areas like Dwarka, South Extension, Vasant Vihar, Chhatarpur, and Gurugram saw heavy waterlogging, resulting in long traffic snarls.

Flight Delays and Cancellations: Airlines including IndiGo, Air India, Akasa Air, and SpiceJet issued travel advisories. Bad weather at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport delayed 95 incoming flights and 353 scheduled departures, according to Flightradar24 data.Metro Services Hit Again: The Blue and Yellow lines of the Delhi Metro faced disruptions, with commuters facing long waits and packed platforms.

Gurugram Braces for More Rain: The IMD has issued an ‘orange’ alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Gurugram on Tuesday. The local administration has advised private offices to allow employees to work from home, and schools have been asked to shift to online classes.

With more rain expected, Delhi-NCR residents are being urged to stay cautious and plan travel accordingly.
