High Voter Turnout Marks Peaceful Polling in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry Assembly Elections
Assam records over 84% turnout, Puducherry crosses 86%; counting scheduled for next month
Polling for Assembly elections concluded peacefully across Assam, Kerala and the Union Territory of Puducherry, with voter participation remaining robust across regions.
In Assam, voting was held for all 126 Assembly seats, recording a turnout of 84.42 percent till 5 PM. South Salmara Mankachar district registered the highest participation in the state at 94.08 percent.
Kerala, where polling took place across 140 constituencies, recorded a voter turnout of 75.01 percent till 5 PM. Kozhikode district reported the highest participation in the state at 77.63 percent.
In Puducherry, voting for 30 Assembly seats saw a turnout of 86.92 percent till 5 PM, reflecting strong voter engagement in the Union Territory.
Alongside these elections, bypolls were also conducted in several states. In Karnataka’s Bagalkot constituency, a turnout of 65.68 percent was recorded, while Davanagere South witnessed 63.04 percent polling. In Nagaland, polling for the Koridang Assembly constituency in Mokokchung district remained peaceful, with voter turnout reaching 80.62 percent till 5 PM. Tripura’s Dharmanagar seat recorded a turnout of 79.84 percent.
Meanwhile, in West Bengal, the electoral process continues with the last date for withdrawal of nominations for the first phase of polling and the final day for filing nominations for the second phase.
The Election Commission of India had made extensive security and logistical arrangements to ensure free and fair polling across all regions.
Counting of votes for Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry is scheduled to take place on May 4.
