Indian Railways to Run 1,500 Special Trains in Next 5 Days for Chhath Festival Rush

Over 12,000 special services planned nationwide between October and November; Railways reports 50% passenger surge at Udhna station post-Diwali.

Indian Railways will run 1,500 special trains over the next 5 days with an average of 300 specials per day in addition to regular train services, to cater to Chhath festival rush.

Besides regular trains, 4,493 special train trips in the last 21 days, averaging 213 trips daily, helped the passengers reach home safely for Diwali festivities, a Railway Ministry spokesman said today.

Over a duration of 61 days, from October one to November 30, more than 12,000 special trains are being operated across the country.

So far, a total of 11,865 trips (916 trains) have been notified, including 9,338 reserved and 2,203 unreserved trips.

This marks a significant increase from last year when 7,724 Puja and Diwali special trains were run, the spokesman added.

The Railways also facilitated over 36,000 passengers at Udhna Station on October 19, which is about 50 percent increase compared to the day in 2024.

A dedicated holding area was created and a large number of ticket counters are provided for the convenience of passengers.

More than 1.2 lakh passengers travelled from Udhna in the last five days, the Ministry said on X.
