IndiGo Flight Makes Emergency Landing At Delhi After Engine Failure
Boeing 737 6E 579 from Visakhapatnam carrying 161 passengers lands safely at IGI Airport; aircraft wet-leased from Turkey's Corendon Airlines undergoing checks
An IndiGo flight carrying 161 passengers made an emergency landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Saturday morning after a technical snag was detected shortly before landing, prompting authorities to declare a full emergency. All passengers were evacuated safely with no injuries or damage reported.
Flight 6E 579, a Boeing 737 aircraft operating the Visakhapatnam-Delhi route, developed an engine fault in the final stages of its approach to Delhi. The pilots requested priority landing in accordance with standard operating procedure, and the aircraft touched down safely. The Delhi fire department received the emergency alert at 10:54 am and immediately dispatched fire tenders to the runway.
IndiGo confirmed the sequence of events in an official statement. "As a precautionary step and in accordance with standard operating procedure, the pilots requested priority landing, and the aircraft arrived safely. All relevant authorities were promptly informed, and the aircraft is undergoing necessary checks and maintenance," the airline's spokesperson said.
The Boeing 737 involved in the incident was wet-leased by IndiGo from Turkey's Corendon Airlines — one of five such aircraft currently operating on short-term lease arrangements with the carrier.
