Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the first phase of Noida International Airport at Jewar in Gautam Buddha Nagar district — a landmark moment in India's aviation infrastructure story that gives the National Capital Region its second international gateway and positions Delhi NCR among the world's leading aviation hubs.

Developed as a complement to Indira Gandhi International Airport, Noida International Airport is designed to function as an integrated dual-airport system for the NCR — easing congestion, expanding passenger capacity, and absorbing the region's rapidly growing air traffic. Phase I has been built at a total investment of Rs 11,200 crore under a Public-Private Partnership model, with an initial passenger handling capacity of 12 million per annum — scalable to 70 million upon full development across all phases.

The airport features a 3,900-metre runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft, supported by an Instrument Landing System and advanced airfield lighting for round-the-clock, all-weather operations. Its cargo ecosystem includes a Multi-Modal Cargo Hub with an Integrated Cargo Terminal and logistics zones capable of handling over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes annually — expandable to approximately 18 lakh metric tonnes — along with a dedicated 40-acre Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul facility.

Noida International Airport has been designed to operate as a net-zero emissions facility, integrating energy-efficient systems throughout. Its architectural identity draws from Indian heritage, incorporating visual references to traditional ghats and havelis — blending cultural aesthetics with cutting-edge infrastructure design.

Strategically positioned along the Yamuna Expressway, the airport is planned as a multi-modal transport hub with seamless integration across road, rail, metro, and regional transit systems to ensure efficient last-mile connectivity for passengers and freight alike.
