JNU Suspends Partnership with Turkish University in Show of National Solidarity
Citing national security concerns, Jawaharlal Nehru University halts academic collaboration with Turkish institution;

Academic collaboration of Jawaharlal Nehru University with Inonu University in Turkey, has suspended over national security concerns. The decision came after a review of their memorandum of understanding (MoU), following reports that linked Turkey to the recent flare-up between India and Pakistan.
According to defence sources, Turkey has allegedly supplied drones and security personnel to Pakistan, prompting the university to reassess the collaboration. In a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, JNU stated: “Due to national security considerations, the MoU between JNU and Inonu University, Türkiye, stands suspended until further notice. JNU stands with the nation.”
The agreement, signed in February 2025, was supposed to last three years and aimed to promote academic exchange between the two institutions. But growing concerns over Turkey’s closeness with Pakistan—and a broader push to limit foreign partnerships that may compromise national interests—led to the suspension.
The university has notified all students and faculty involved in the programme and said it’s working on backup academic arrangements if needed. JNU emphasized that national security remains a top priority in all its international collaborations.
