Journal of Indian Knowledge System (JIKS) published by Brill launched at Delhi University

On the initiative of Indian Knowledge Systems and Heritage Association (IKSHA), the Journal of Indian Knowledge Systems (JIKS) published by the prestigious publishing group 'Brill' based in the United Kingdom was formally launched on May 11, 2025 by Prof. Jagdish Kumar, former Chairman, University Grants Commission at Maharishi Kanad Bhawan, University of Delhi.

The launch ceremony was attended by many eminent scholars including Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabuddhe, Chairman, Executive Committee, National Assessment and Accreditation Council; Prof. Dhananjay Singh, Member Secretary, ICSSR; Prof. Ganti S. Murthy, National Coordinator, IKS Division, Ministry of Education; Prof. Om G Upadhyay, Member Secretary, ICHR; Prof. Sachchidanand Mishra, Member Secretary, ICPR; and Prof. Shriprakash Singh, Director, University of Delhi, South Campus. The event was attended by intellectuals, academicians and scholars from across the country.

In his address, Prof. Jagadeesh Kumar stressed the urgent need for high quality international research journals in the field of Indian Knowledge Systems. He underlined the importance of mainstreaming Indian intellectual traditions and their conceptual frameworks to better understand the human condition.

In his address, Prof Sahasrabuddhe said that the Journal of Indian Knowledge Systems (JIKS) is dedicated to the study of India and its civilisational evolution, drawing from Indian texts, contextualisation and folk tradition as sources of knowledge production. The research journal uses the framework and vision of Indian epistemology to nurture and promote Indian knowledge systems.

The IKSHA team comprises eminent intellectuals and domain experts from the IITs (Roorkee, Kanpur, Guwahati, Madras, Hyderabad and Delhi), as well as academicians from central universities and other national level institutions.

Prof Ganti S Murthy said that the journal highlights the contemporary relevance of Indian knowledge traditions. It covers a wide range of intellectual fields, including aesthetics, arts, architecture, cognitive and psychological sciences, economic and political sciences, science and technology. The journal includes both Disruptive Icons (examining Western universalism) and Constructive Icons which focuses on developing alternative theoretical frameworks.
