New LPG prices have come into effect across the country from April 1, 2026, with a sharp increase in the cost of commercial cylinders. According to data released by oil marketing companies including Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, the price of a 19-kilogram commercial LPG cylinder has been raised by ₹195.50 per unit.

Following the hike, the price of a commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi has reached ₹2,078.50. Kolkata witnessed an even steeper rise, with prices increasing by ₹218. This marks the second major hike in commercial gas prices within a month, adding financial strain on businesses dependent on LPG.

Despite the increase in commercial LPG rates, domestic consumers have been spared any immediate burden. The price of a 14.2-kilogram domestic LPG cylinder remains unchanged. In Delhi, domestic cylinders continue to be priced at ₹913, providing relief to households. Experts suggest that the decision to keep domestic prices stable reflects an effort to protect household budgets.

However, the rise in commercial LPG prices is expected to have indirect effects on consumers. Restaurants, hotels, dhabas, and small food businesses that rely heavily on commercial cylinders are likely to face higher operational costs. Traders have indicated that the increased expenses may lead to a rise in food prices, impacting customers.

Industry experts attribute the price hike to volatility in the global energy market. Ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia, particularly involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, have disrupted supply chains and increased logistics costs. The situation has also affected crude oil and natural gas prices internationally, prompting oil companies to revise domestic rates in line with global benchmarks and exchange rate fluctuations.

While the government has taken steps to ensure adequate supply, including increasing quotas in areas facing shortages such as Delhi, concerns remain among businesses. Experts warn that if geopolitical tensions persist, LPG prices may continue to fluctuate in the coming months.
