Lucknow to Dispatch First Batch of BrahMos Missiles, Marking a New Era in Defence Manufacturing
First BrahMos missiles built in Lucknow to be flagged off by Rajnath Singh and Yogi Adityanath, marking a major boost for UP’s role in India’s defence manufacturing push
In a major milestone for India’s defence manufacturing sector, Lucknow is set to dispatch its first batch of BrahMos missiles from the BrahMos Aerospace Unit in Sarojini Nagar on Saturday. The event will be jointly flagged off by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, marking a historic achievement for both the state and the country.
This will be the first time that the BrahMos missile — known globally as the fastest and most advanced precision strike weapon — is being assembled, integrated, and tested entirely in Uttar Pradesh. The facility is part of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC), a flagship project aimed at boosting indigenous defence production and promoting self-reliance under the “Make in India” initiative.
The BrahMos Aerospace facility in Sarojini Nagar was inaugurated on May 11, 2025, and has quickly become one of the key units in the defence corridor. The state-of-the-art plant is equipped with cutting-edge systems for missile assembly, testing, quality control, and final integration. After successful in-house trials, the missiles will be ready for induction into the Indian Armed Forces.
During Saturday’s event, the Defence Minister and Chief Minister will also inaugurate the newly constructed Booster Building and witness a live demonstration of the booster docking process. They will tour the facility, including key areas like the Airframe and Avionics section, Warhead Building, and Pre-Dispatch Inspection unit.
Director General of BrahMos, Dr Jaytirth R. Joshi, is also expected to hand over the GST bill and payment cheque to CM Yogi Adityanath — a symbolic gesture of the revenue being generated by the facility for the state.
More than just a manufacturing milestone, the BrahMos unit in Lucknow is also creating high-skilled job opportunities and contributing to local economic growth. It is the first facility within the UPDIC to handle the entire missile production process in-house, positioning Uttar Pradesh as a critical player in both national defence and future exports.
As BrahMos Aerospace ramps up production, the Lucknow facility is expected to play a key role in meeting domestic defence needs while paving the way for next-generation missile systems and potential international contracts.
