Ludhiana Police Crack NRI Woman’s Murder Case
One suspect held for killing and burning 72-year-old’s body; overseas accomplice remains at large
The Ludhiana police claim to have solved the murder case of a 72-year-old Non-Resident Indian (NRI) woman in Kila Raipur. The police have arrested a suspect, while a second individual, believed to be abroad, remains at large.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rupinder Singh, the victim, a divorcee, was allegedly killed by an acquaintance who attempted to destroy evidence by burning her body with coal at her residence.
The suspect, who reported her missing, was apprehended after a thorough investigation. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and human remains were recovered from the site.
Investigations revealed that the woman had a relationship with the second suspect, who resides overseas. She had transferred money to his account and expressed intentions to marry him. However, their relationship soured, leading the overseas suspect to allegedly orchestrate the murder, promising the arrested individual Rs 50 lakh and a chance to relocate abroad.
DCP Rupinder Singh said the arrested suspect attempted to dispose of the body to eliminate evidence, but was traced through meticulous police work. The second suspect, still abroad, is currently evading arrest.
A press conference was held today to share these developments and the police are continuing efforts to apprehend the absconding individual.
The case, initially registered as a missing person report, was reclassified as a murder investigation following the discovery of incriminating evidence.
