A shocking case of domestic violence with a criminal underpinning has emerged from Ghaziabad’s Ajnara Integrity Society, where a man with a history of heinous cases registered against him allegedly shot and killed his wife, also a listed gangster, in their rented apartment.

The horrific incident took place this morning, while the couple’s 11-year-old daughter was in the adjacent room.

According to police reports, the accused, Vikas Kumar (38), shot his wife Ruby (34) inside the washroom of their apartment after an argument. He then dragged her body into the bedroom before fleeing the scene.

The couple’s younger daughter, who was present in the house, heard the gunshot and saw her mother covered in blood. She then witnessed her father dragging the body and running away. The girl alerted neighbours, who immediately informed the police.

When police arrived, they found Ruby's body lying in a pool of blood. A forensic team was called to collect evidence from the crime scene. The couple reportedly had an argument over a passport-related issue, which escalated into violence.

The daughter told police that a similar argument had taken place four days earlier during Karva Chauth, when her father had physically assaulted her mother.

According to DCP City Dhawal Jaiswal, Ruby had a criminal history and was a listed gangster under Muradnagar police station with three cases registered against her, including one under the Gangster Act.

In 2020, she was accused in the murder case of Akshay Sangwan, which was allegedly an act of revenge for the murder of her brother Deependra in 2019 over a liquor shop dispute.

Ruby had reportedly sold ancestral land to hire contract killers. She allegedly conspired with her husband Vikas, associate Sappu Gurjar, and Akshay’s friend Ashwani to execute the killing.

On August 24, 2020, Akshay Sangwan was shot dead on Tibra Road in Modinagar. Ruby was among the eight accused in the case and was arrested on September 8, 2020, after being declared a wanted criminal with a Rs 15,000 reward on her head.

Both Ruby and Vikas were jailed and later released on bail. In 2023, another case under the Gangster Act was filed against the couple, and they were again imprisoned before getting bail.

The couple’s two daughters, aged 13 and 11, have been placed in the care of relatives for the time being. Police have informed the victim’s family and are offering support through child welfare authorities.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend the accused, Vikas Kumar.
