The Meghalaya Police have revealed that Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi, has claimed to have hidden his missing jewellery in a specific location.

At a recent press conference, Director General of Police (DGP) Idashisha Nongrang stated, “Sonam has informed investigators that Raja’s jewellery was kept in a particular place. We are looking into that,” according to news agency PTI.

Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi had been on their honeymoon in Meghalaya when they were reported missing on May 23. On June 2, Raja’s body was discovered at the bottom of a deep gorge near a waterfall in the Sohra region—also known as Cherrapunji—in the East Khasi Hills district.

The case took a dramatic turn when Sonam resurfaced on June 9 in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh—over 1,200 kilometers away from the crime scene—and surrendered to local police.

Investigators now say Sonam plotted her husband’s murder with her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, just two weeks after their wedding. Together, they allegedly hired three men—Akash Thakur, Anand Kurmi, and Vishal Chauhan (one of whom is Raj's cousin)—to carry out the killing during the couple's honeymoon.

DGP Nongrang told PTI that while the police are treating the love triangle as the primary motive, they are not ruling out other possibilities. “It’s unusual for someone to develop such deep animosity toward their spouse within days of marriage,” she said. “We’re examining all possible angles. The case is strong, and we’re in the process of tying up the loose ends.”

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, police recovered a second machete believed to have been used in the murder. The weapon, which has a steel handle, was found in the same gorge near Weisawdong Falls where Raja’s body was earlier located. The discovery came during a reconstruction of the crime scene with the four accused present.
