Mother Pushes 8-Year-Old Daughter In Front Of Train At MP Station
Girl in critical condition after being struck by Tamil Nadu Express at Narmadapuram; CCTV captures incident, mental health angle under investigation
An eight-year-old girl is fighting for her life after her mother allegedly pushed her onto the tracks in front of an oncoming train at Narmadapuram railway station on Tuesday evening, in a deeply disturbing incident captured on CCTV that has prompted a police case and a mental health inquiry.
According to Government Railway Police in-charge Sanjeev Chaukse, the mother and daughter had been on the platform for nearly three hours before the incident. At around 7:40 pm, as the Tamil Nadu Express approached Platform No. 1, the woman allegedly pushed the child directly onto the tracks. The girl was struck by the engine and became trapped between the platform edge and the tracks, sustaining severe injuries to her head, waist, and shoulder, along with significant blood loss. Once the train cleared, bystanders and railway personnel pulled her to safety and rushed her to hospital. Witnesses alleged that the mother actively tried to prevent people from rescuing the child.
The girl, a Class II student, was initially admitted to the district hospital and placed on ventilator support before being referred to Bhopal as her condition deteriorated. Doctors described her state as critical.
The mother, a government employee from the Malakhedi area who had secured a compensatory appointment following her husband's death, had reportedly been receiving medical treatment for a mental health condition for several years. Police have registered a case and are verifying her treatment history as part of the ongoing investigation.
