Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries Limited, has once again become India’s richest individual, reclaiming the top position from Gautam Adani in the M3M Hurun India Rich List 2025. Ambani and his family topped the list with a net worth of ₹9.55 lakh crore, while Adani and his family were ranked second, with a net worth of ₹8.15 lakh crore.

This marks yet another twist in the ongoing battle for the top spot between the country’s two most powerful business tycoons — a rivalry that has seen several reversals in recent years. Adani had previously dethroned Ambani in 2024 with a staggering net worth of ₹11.6 lakh crore, pushing Ambani to second place that year. However, Ambani has now bounced back to the top.

The ongoing 'flip-flop' between the two billionaires began in 2022 when Adani overtook Ambani, ending the Reliance chairman’s decade-long reign at the top of the Hurun list. In the 2022 edition, Adani’s wealth stood at ₹10.94 lakh crore, while Ambani was pushed to second place for the first time in ten years.

In 2023, Ambani reclaimed the number one spot with a net worth of ₹8.08 lakh crore, while Adani's wealth dropped significantly to ₹4.74 lakh crore, placing him second once again.

Adani staged a major comeback in 2024, regaining the top spot with ₹11.6 lakh crore in wealth, while Ambani, despite seeing his net worth rise to ₹10.14 lakh crore, slipped back to second place.

Now, in 2025, the tide has turned again in Ambani’s favour, underlining the dynamic nature of wealth creation in India’s rapidly changing business landscape.

The 2025 list also brought significant recognition to Roshni Nadar Malhotra, chairperson of HCL Technologies, who became India’s richest woman. She entered the top three for the first time with a wealth of ₹2.84 lakh crore, reflecting the rising influence of women in India’s corporate world.

With shifting fortunes and continued growth, the competition at the top of India’s rich list remains as intense as ever.
