The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is preparing to build a new cricket stadium near the city. The new stadium will have a seating capacity of about 1 lakh spectators. According to the Times of India report, the Mumbai Cricket Association is planning to build a new stadium in Thane district. It will be 68 km away from the Wankhede Stadium. According to the report, the new stadium will be built on 50 acres of land in Amane village. The Mumbai Cricket Association has issued tenders for this. The approval of the Maharashtra government is awaited for land acquisition.

The new stadium is the dream project of MCA President Amol Kale, who passed away last month. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis honored Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dubey and Yashasvi Jaiswal. During this, a call was made to build a new stadium. The very next day, a report of the new project came in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that we have a historic stadium in the form of Wankhede. Mumbai needs a stadium bigger than Wankhede in the future. Our Chief Minister will give all possible help to MCA and BCCI. Wankhede is a historic stadium and cannot be compared to any other stadium, but now the time has come to give Mumbai a new and bigger stadium, which has a seating capacity of 1 lakh people.

Currently, Mumbai has 3 international cricket stadiums. These include Wankhede Stadium (330000 spectator capacity), Brabourne Stadium (20000 spectator capacity) and DY Patil Stadium (45000 spectator capacity).

Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium witnessed the historic 2011 World Cup final. The first semi-final of the 2023 World Cup was also held here. The second semi-final of the 1987 World Cup was also held here. In 2016, T20 World Cup matches were also played here.
