Mumbai Sees Calm After Stormy Night, But IMD Warns of More Rain Ahead
The weather department issued a 'yellow' alert for Mumbai, predicting heavy rainfall in isolated areas.;

After a night of heavy rain, thunder, and lightning, Mumbai woke up to calmer skies on Sunday morning. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh weather alerts, warning of more intense rainfall in the coming days.
A yellow alert has been issued for Mumbai, predicting heavy showers in isolated areas. Meanwhile, an orange alert has been sounded for the neighbouring districts of Thane, Raigad, and Palghar, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected.
Though parts of Mumbai saw intense downpours overnight, rain intensity reduced by morning, with only light showers reported. Thankfully, officials confirmed there were no major cases of waterlogging, offering some relief to commuters.
According to civic officials, in the 24-hour period ending at 8 a.m. on Sunday, the island city received 31 mm of rainfall, while the eastern and western suburbs recorded 21 mm and 20 mm, respectively.
Looking ahead, tidal activity is expected on Monday, with a high tide of 3.55 metres around 2:37 a.m. and a low tide of 1.06 metres at 8:20 a.m.
Orange Alert for Thane, Raigad, Palghar
The IMD has warned that Thane, Raigad, and Palghar districts could see very heavy rainfall and issued an orange alert for these regions.
Himachal Pradesh Braces for Stormy Weather
In the north, a yellow warning has been issued for parts of Himachal Pradesh, including Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur, from Sunday through Wednesday. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–60 km/h are expected. Similar alerts have been issued for Una, Bilaspur, and Hamirpur on Monday and Wednesday.
Monsoon Set to Arrive in Jharkhand June 17–19
Meanwhile, in eastern India, the southwest monsoon is expected to arrive in Jharkhand between June 17 and 19. Widespread rainfall is forecast during this period. A yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued for Monday in parts of southwest and central Jharkhand, with an orange alert for June 17–18 in the same areas.
