Over 1.29 Lakh Bihar Women Get Driving Licenses in 8 Years Under Nitish Kumar
Patna leads with 29,417 licenses as women break into traditionally male-dominated areas;

Women of Bihar are now making their strong presence felt even in those areas which were till now considered limited to men. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, there has been an increase in the number of light motor vehicle driving licenses of women. Since the year 2018, more than one lakh 29 thousand women have become driving license holders of two-wheelers and four-wheelers in the state. According to the data of the Transport Department, in the last eight years, the highest number of 29 thousand 417 women of Patna district have got driving licenses. After this, 18 thousand 560 women of Muzaffarpur district have taken steps towards becoming empowered by getting driving licenses.
Women of Patna division have the highest number of driving licenses
Women of Patna division are at the forefront in getting driving licenses, where driving licenses have been issued in the name of more than 40 thousand women. After this, about 33 thousand women are driving license holders in Tirhut division. In terms of getting driving licenses, women of Darbhanga are at third place, Magadh at fourth and Munger division at fifth. At the same time, the least number of women, around four thousand, have driving licenses in Kosi division.
A medium to make women self-reliant: Transport Secretary
Transport Secretary Sandeep Kumar R. Pudkalkatti said on this change that earlier women used to depend on others for things like dropping and picking up children from school, going to office, shopping from the market. Now this is changing. Now women are not only getting driving licenses. But they are also seen on the driving seat with confidence.
