Under the Ministry of External Affairs’ citizen-centric initiative “Passport Seva – Passport at Your Doorstep,” the Regional Passport Office (RPO), Patna organized a one day Passport Seva Mobile Van Camp on 11th of April, 2026 at the renowned Nalanda University, Rajgir.

2. Nalanda University located in Rajgir, under Ministry of External Affairs, holds immense historical and academic significance as a revival of the ancient Nalanda Mahavihara-one of the world’s oldest residential universities and a symbol of India’s rich educational heritage. The modern university continues this legacy by fostering global academic collaboration and attracting students and scholars from across the world.

3. The Special Passport Camp was organized with the objective of facilitating passport services for students, faculty members, officials and the wider academic fraternity associated with the university. The initiative aimed to provide convenient access to passport-related services and streamline the application process within the campus itself. The camp benefited 55 beneficiaries.

4. The camp was inaugurated by Ambassador Sibi George (Indian Foreign Service) 1993 batch, Secretary (West), MEA, along with Prof. Sachin Chaturvedi, VC of Nalanda University. The Passport Seva Mobile Van facility enabled applicants to complete the entire passport application process at the venue itself, including document verification, biometric data collection, and submission of applications. Considering the demanding academic schedules of most applicants, the initiative proved to be highly beneficial, offering significant time savings while ensuring that their routine academic commitments remained largely undisturbed.

5. The Special Passport Camp drew a wave of enthusiastic participation, particularly from students keen to pursue higher education abroad, engage in international collaborations, and explore global career opportunities. By bringing passport services directly to the campus, the initiative not only enhanced accessibility and convenience but also made the application process smoother and more efficient for everyone. This outreach formed part of RPO Patna’s ongoing efforts to extend passport services across Bihar, reflecting the Ministry’s strong commitment to transparent, efficient, and citizen-friendly service delivery. Such initiatives are a step toward making essential services more approachable; reinforcing the message that modern governance is both proactive and inclusive.

6. The authorities at Nalanda University extended full support to ensure the smooth conduct of the camp. The successful conduct of the camp reflected the joint initiative of Nalanda University and Ministry’s cohesive approach in leveraging its institutional ecosystem to enhance outreach, while further advancing its commitment to facilitating global opportunities for India’s youth through premier academic institutions.

7. As of now, more than 2,200 applications have been processed across all 17 Passport Seva Mobile Van Camps organized by RPO Patna in several districts of Bihar in the last two years. These camps have significantly improved access to passport services, especially in remote and underserved areas.
