PM Modi Targets TMC in Bengal Rally, Promises Action on Infiltration and Corruption

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during an election rally in Purba Bardhaman ahead of the West Bengal Assembly polls.

Addressing a large gathering, Modi said the TMC was in “panic mode” due to increasing public support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state. He assured that if voted to power, the BJP would significantly improve law and order and ensure women’s safety.

Highlighting one of the key promises, the Prime Minister said illegal immigrants would be expelled from the state, adding that strict action would be taken against those who aided their settlement. He stressed that illegal immigration would not be tolerated under a BJP government.

Modi also announced that a ‘white paper’ on corruption and law and order would be released after the formation of a BJP government. He said accountability would be fixed for those involved in corruption and political violence, and an inquiry commission led by a retired Supreme Court judge would be set up to investigate such incidents.

On welfare schemes run by the current state government, Modi said that these would not be discontinued but would be made free from corruption. He also promised that the Ayushman Bharat health scheme would be implemented in the state during the first cabinet meeting of a BJP-led government.

Targeting alleged syndicate operations and illegal activities, the Prime Minister said a transparent tender system would be introduced for government projects. He also referred to incidents of violence, stating that strict action would be taken against those involved.

The West Bengal Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting of votes on May 4.
