Patna: A Patna court on Wednesday admitted a complaint against Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and three others under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly damaging the reputation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by using abusive language against his late mother.

Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Manish Kumar Upadhaya recorded the statement of complainant Awadesh Kumar Pandey, a senior central government counsel, and fixed September 10 as the next date of hearing.

In his petition, Pandey alleged that in the presence of Rahul Gandhi, RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and Vikassheel Insaan Party chief Mukesh Sahni, highly derogatory remarks were made against Modi’s mother during the Vote Adhikar Yatra rally on August 28, 2025. According to him, one Mohammad Rizvi had used “filthy language” against the deceased mother of the Prime Minister, thereby committing offences under different provisions of the BNS.

Pandey also submitted statements of three advocates in support of his allegations.

Meanwhile, the Bihar unit of the BJP has called for a half-day bandh in the state on Thursday in protest.
