PM Modi Announces ₹1,500 Crore Relief Package for Flood-Hit Himachal Pradesh
After aerial survey and high-level review in Kangra, Centre advances SDRF funds, sanctions support for farmers and housing, and declares ex-gratia for victims’ families.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi undertook an aerial survey of flood and rain-affected areas of Himachal Pradesh today and announced a financial assistance package of Rs. 1,500 crore for the state.
The announcement of the financial package came after Modi reviewed the situation at a high-level meeting in Kangra to assess the scale of destruction caused by cloudbursts, landslides, and incessant rains.
Besides the financial assistance package, the Centre also decided to advance the second instalment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and release funds under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.
Additional measures announced include sanctions under the PM Awas Yojana for damaged houses, restoration of national highways, release of mini kits for livestock, and targeted support for farmers without power connections.
To ensure continuity in education, schools will be allowed to geo-tag damaged buildings for timely aid under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. Water recharge structures will also be constructed to improve groundwater management.
The Prime Minister also declared an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh for the next of kin of those who lost their lives and ₹50,000 for the seriously injured. He personally met affected families and expressed his condolences.
Modi interacted with personnel from the NDRF, SDRF, Army and Aapda Mitra volunteers, commending their relentless efforts in relief and rescue operations. He assured that the union Government will work in close coordination with the State Government to restore normalcy and rebuild critical infrastructure.
The Centre has already dispatched Inter-Ministerial Central Teams to conduct detailed damage assessments, based on which further financial aid will be considered.
Acknowledging the gravity of the crisis, the Prime Minister said, "The Central Government will extend all possible assistance to Himachal Pradesh in this hour of need."
