PM Modi Meets Italian PM Meloni at G7 Summit in Canada; Moment Goes Viral

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Italian counterpart, Giorgia Meloni, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Canada, and a brief but warm exchange between the two leaders has captured the internet’s attention.

In a now-viral video clip, Meloni and Modi are seen greeting each other with smiles and asking about each other’s well-being. During the exchange, Meloni affectionately referred to Modi as “the best,” adding, “I’m trying to be as you.” The friendly moment has sparked widespread interest on social media.

Both leaders later took to X (formerly Twitter) to emphasize the growing partnership between India and Italy. PM Modi posted, “India’s friendship with Italy will continue to get stronger, greatly benefitting our people!”

PM Modi at the G7 Summit 2025

PM Modi is currently attending the G7 Summit 2025 in Canada — marking his sixth consecutive appearance at the high-level gathering. In ten years, this visit also happens to be his first trip to Canada.

On his first day at the summit, Modi met with Canada's newly elected Prime Minister, Mark Carney. In his address to the press, Carney said Modi’s participation reflects India’s economic strength, technological prowess, and its leadership on the global stage, particularly within the G20 and beyond.

Part of a Three-Nation Tour

The Canada visit is part of Modi’s three-nation tour. Before arriving in Canada, he stopped in Cyprus, where he was honored with the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III — the country’s highest civilian award.

Following his engagements in Canada, Modi will head to Croatia to wrap up his tour.
