Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday lashed out at Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav over allegations of disrespecting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar during his recent birthday celebration, calling the act an insult to the architect of the Constitution.

The controversy began earlier this week after a video went viral from Lalu Yadav’s 78th birthday celebration, where his feet were seen near a portrait of Dr. Ambedkar, sparking outrage across Bihar.

Addressing a rally in Siwan, Bihar, Modi said, “The entire country saw what the RJD did to Babasaheb’s photo recently. I know they will never apologise—because they have no genuine respect for Dalits or backward communities.”

“The RJD and Congress place Babasaheb’s photo at their feet. Modi, on the other hand, carries him in his heart,” the prime minister added.

Modi also took aim at the RJD-Congress alliance, accusing both parties of dragging Bihar into decades of poverty, migration, and lawlessness.

“They are the reason why so many labourers were forced to migrate from Bihar. Their governance model focused on serving their own families, not the people,” he said.

Referring to the Congress-era 'licence raj', Modi remarked, “During that time, their leaders grew rich while the public stayed poor.”

Highlighting the progress made under the NDA government, Modi cited several development achievements in Bihar. “Over the past 10 years, 1.5 crore homes have been given electricity, and the same number have received water connections. We've built more than 45,000 Common Service Centres and laid around 55,000 kilometers of rural roads,” he said.

Modi stressed that continued development is key to Bihar’s future and said the state will play a crucial role in India’s economic growth in the years ahead.

The rally comes just months before Bihar heads to the polls for its next assembly elections.
