BJP leader Tejasvi Surya announced on Sunday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bengaluru on August 10 to inaugurate the Yellow Line of the Bengaluru Metro and lay the foundation stone for Phase-3 of the metro project.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Surya said the visit will be a major milestone for Bengaluru South. “The Hon’ble Prime Minister will not only inaugurate the long-awaited Yellow Line Metro operations but also lay the foundation stone for Metro Phase-3 — a project that received Cabinet approval within the first 100 days of his third term,” he said.

The 19.15 km Yellow Line, running from RV Road to Bommasandra with 16 stations, is expected to serve nearly 8 lakh commuters. Surya said this new line would significantly ease the notorious traffic congestion near the Silk Board junction. “Public transport is the only sustainable solution to Bengaluru’s traffic woes,” he added.

Together, the Yellow Line and Phase-3 are projected to benefit around 25 lakh people in Bengaluru South. Surya noted that by launching the Yellow Line on August 10, the project will meet its August 15 deadline. He credited Prime Minister Modi’s personal intervention for ensuring there were no further delays.

Union Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar also confirmed the Prime Minister’s visit, stating that the Yellow Line was built at a cost of ₹5,056.99 crore, while the 44.65 km Phase-3 will involve an investment of ₹15,611 crore.

Surya, who is also the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), had recently staged a protest demanding the immediate opening of the Yellow Line.
