Punjab Flood Situation Eases as Rainfall Declines; Over 21,900 Evacuated Safely

No new casualties reported; 196 relief camps shelter 7,108 displaced people as NDRF, SDRF, Army and BSF continue large-scale rescue operations.

Punjab has seen some respite from the ongoing flood crisis as rainfall in the state and its upper hilly regions has decreased, according to Punjab’s Revenue, Rehabilitation, and Disaster Management Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian.

In the past 24 hours, no new area has been reported as affected, and no loss of life has been recorded, though 46 additional villages and 504.16 hectares of agricultural land have been impacted.

Mundian shared that a total of 21,929 individuals have been safely evacuated from flood-affected areas across Punjab.

The evacuations include 5,581 people from Gurdaspur, 3,840 from Ferozepur, 3,953 from Fazilka, 2,734 from Amritsar, 1,615 from Hoshiarpur, 1,428 from Kapurthala, 1,139 from Pathankot, 511 from Jalandhar, 539 from Barnala, 178 from Mansa, 145 from Moga, 245 from Rupnagar, and 21 from Tarn Taran.

The state has established 196 relief camps, currently sheltering 7,108 displaced individuals. Fazilka accounts for the highest number of camp residents at 2,548, followed by Hoshiarpur (1,041), Ferozepur (776), Pathankot (693), Jalandhar (511), Barnala (539), Amritsar (371), Rupnagar (245), Moga (145), Mansa (89), Sangrur (80), Kapurthala (57), and Gurdaspur (13).

The minister reported that an additional 504.16 hectares of farmland were affected in the last 24 hours, bringing the total agricultural damage to 1.72 lakh hectares across 18 districts.

Fazilka saw an increase of 286.5 hectares, totaling 18,072 hectares, while Kapurthala reported an additional 10.09 hectares, reaching 17,817 hectares. Ludhiana and Patiala recorded increases of 20 hectares (totaling 52 hectares) and 208 hectares (totaling 808 hectares), respectively.

Despite the addition of 46 villages and 117 individuals to the affected tally in the past day, Mundian emphasized that no human lives were lost during this period. However, since August 1, 2025, the floods have claimed 43 lives across 14 districts.

The newly affected villages include 20 in Patiala, 12 in Ludhiana, 10 in Jalandhar, 2 in Fazilka, and 1 each in Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala, bringing the total to 1,948 villages and 3,84,322 people impacted across 22 districts.

Relief operations remain robust, with 24 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams deployed across Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Rupnagar (2 teams each), Fazilka, Gurdaspur (4 teams each), Ferozepur, Patiala (3 teams each), Hoshiarpur, and Pathankot (1 team each). Additionally, two State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are active in Kapurthala.

The Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force have deployed 24 teams, supported by approximately 35 helicopters for air assistance, while the Border Security Force (BSF) continues relief efforts in Ferozepur. A total of 144 boats and one government helicopter are also aiding rescue and relief operations.
