Under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is working diligently for the overall development and welfare of children across the state. Giving special priority to children from economically weaker families and orphaned children, the state government is ensuring their care, upbringing and education. This was disclosed by Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr Baljit Kaur here today.

The Minister informed that under the Sponsorship Scheme, the Punjab Government provides financial assistance of ₹4,000 per child per month to economically weaker, destitute and orphaned children. She said this support is extended to children belonging to families unable to provide proper care due to financial constraints, as well as to orphans living with their relatives.

Dr Baljit Kaur further said that this assistance is provided until the child attains the age of 18 years. So far, 5,475 beneficiaries across Punjab have already received financial support under the scheme, she added.

Highlighting the objectives of the initiative, Dr Baljit Kaur said the scheme is not merely about providing financial aid, but about securing a brighter future for children. With this support, children are able to continue their education, pursue their dreams and become part of the mainstream of society.

Reiterating the Punjab Government’s commitment, Dr Baljit Kaur said the ultimate aim is to ensure that every child becomes educated, self-reliant and a responsible citizen who contributes to the progress of society and the state. She said the government is making special efforts for the holistic development of children who have so far been left out of the mainstream.
