Punjab Inspector Suresh Kumar Receives President's Medal for 36 Years of Distinguished Service

Counter Intelligence officer honored on Independence Day 2025 for solving high-profile cases including ₹8.49 crore cash heist; multiple Punjab Police personnel decorated

Inspector Suresh Kumar, serving with the Counter Intelligence Department in Ludhiana, Punjab, has been selected to receive the prestigious President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PMDS) on Independence Day 2025. This accolade recognizes his over 36 years of exemplary and unblemished service in law enforcement, as part of a broader recognition of Punjab Police personnel for their outstanding contributions.

In a statement, Punjab Police expressed heartfelt congratulations to all decorated officers, expressing gratitude to the Hon’ble President of India, the Central Government, and the State Government for acknowledging the exemplary service, integrity, and dedication of its personnel. “This honor strengthens our resolve to tackle every security challenge with courage, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to public safety,” the statement read.

Inspector Kumar’s illustrious career includes solving high-profile cases such as murders and dismantling major criminal networks. Notably, he played a pivotal role in resolving Punjab’s largest cash heist of ₹8.49 crore at the CMS office. His accolades include the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2016, the Chief Minister’s Medal in 2023, four DGP Disc Awards (2010, 2017, 2022, and 2023), over 200 commendation certificates, and 10 appreciation letters. His journey began in 1990 when he topped his batch of 600 recruits at the World Games, and in 1987, he was named his college’s Best Athlete.

Beyond policing, Inspector Kumar is a dedicated environmentalist, actively contributing to greening his surroundings through tree-planting initiatives.

Alongside Inspector Kumar, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M.F. Farooqui will also receive the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service. Additionally, several Punjab Police officers have been awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service (MMS), including Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gurdial Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Gurpreet Singh, Inspectors Satinder Kumar, Deepak Kumar, Jagdeep Singh, and Tejinderpal Singh, Sub-Inspectors Amrik Singh, Sanjiv Kumar, Amritpal Singh, Anil Kumar, Bhupinder Singh, and Krishan Kumar, and Assistant Sub-Inspectors Kuldeep Singh and Jaswinderjit Singh.

These honors, announced ahead of Independence Day 2025, underscore Punjab Police’s commitment to safeguarding citizens and upholding law and order with distinction.
