Punjab Power Corporation Meets Record Demand, Ensures Uninterrupted Supply for Paddy Season
Power Minister reviews preparations as PSPCL implements measures to handle increased electricity needs
In June of this year, PSPCL successfully met its all-time high demand of 16,078 MW, surpassing the maximum demand of 15,325 MW from the previous year. According to Punjab Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO, no cuts have been imposed on any category other than providing agriculture feeders with an uninterrupted eight-hour power supply every day to sow paddy crops throughout the state.
According to the ministry, there are 13,340 11 kV feeders in the state, of which 6954 offer agricultural supplies to about 14,000 tubewell connections. He said that in order to guarantee a steady supply of electricity, the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has implemented a number of steps, including proper plans for power availability and infrastructure upgrades.
In the meantime, Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO evaluated the state's power supply plans for the current paddy season during a critical meeting that was attended by important officials, such as Additional Chief Secretary, Power Tejveer Singh, CMD/PSPCL Er. Baldev Singh Sran, Director Distribution, PSPCL, Er. DPS Grewal, and Director Generation, PSPCL, Er. Parmjeet Singh.
PSPCL officials informed the Minister of Power that a number of steps had been taken to address the rising demand for electricity this summer. These included installing Mobile Transformers in urban areas, 104 Nodal Complaint Centers at the division level, Control rooms at 21 circles, setting up 5 zones in addition to the head office control room for grievance resolution, and assigning sufficient personnel to handle complaints.
Furthermore, the PSPCL reported that there are enough Distribution Transformers, Cables/PVCs, Conductors, Poles, and other accessories in stock and on hand to handle demand during paddy season. Additionally, PSPCL reported that before the paddy season, significant repair was done on the electricity distribution infrastructure, including distribution transformers and power cables. Because of this preventive maintenance, Punjab has not recorded any crop fire occurrences this year that were caused by electric sparks.
The PSPCL was instructed by the Power Minister to make sure that there be no power outages over the summer. The Power Minister expressed pleasure with the preparations made by the Power firms as the meeting came to an end. According to him, the government is optimistic that Punjab's citizens would have a steady supply of electricity throughout the summer.
