Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday leveled serious allegations of large-scale rigging in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, claiming he has concrete evidence to back his claims. Speaking at the Annual Legal Conclave 2025 in Delhi, Gandhi said, “We are going to prove how a Lok Sabha election can be, and was, rigged. I can say this now because I have 100% proof. Whoever I’ve shown it to has literally fallen off their chair.”

His remarks come just a day after he told reporters outside Parliament that the Congress had uncovered an “atom bomb” of evidence implicating the Election Commission of India (ECI). “We dug deep because the EC wasn’t helping. What we found is an atom bomb. When it explodes, you won’t be able to see the Election Commission in India,” Gandhi said.

The Election Commission has firmly rejected the accusations, dismissing them as “baseless.” In a statement issued on August 1, the ECI said, “The Election Commission ignores such baseless allegations being made daily and, despite the daily threats being given, asks all election officials to ignore such irresponsible statements and work fairly and transparently.”

According to Gandhi, the Congress party began investigating the electoral process after suffering a complete defeat in the Maharashtra assembly elections—just months after making notable gains in the same state during the general election. The stark contrast raised red flags and led to what he described as a six-month independent probe.

“We have such proof that we will show the country the institution of the Election Commission no longer exists—it has disappeared,” Gandhi said, adding that it took sustained pressure to obtain physical, scan-proof copies of voter lists from the ECI, instead of the digital records the party initially requested.

He claimed the investigation uncovered significant irregularities, including 1.5 lakh allegedly fake votes out of 6.5 lakh cast in a particular area. “We believe close to 70 to 100 seats were rigged. Even if only 15 seats were tampered with, Narendra Modi would not be the Prime Minister of India,” he said.

Gandhi also used the platform to reflect on the role of the legal community in India’s history. “If it were not for the lawyers, freedom for India wouldn’t have been a reality,” he said, warning that the legal framework that helped shape India's independence is now under systematic attack.
