India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted severe cold in Uttar Pradesh for the next three days.

According to the Meteorological Department, from December 18 to December 21, there will be an outbreak of cold in most parts of the state and the visibility may be very less in the morning.

Dr AK Singh, Scientist of the Meteorological Department said that due to the adverse conditions prevailing in the lower atmosphere, north-westerly cold winds and the effect of Western Disturbance, the minimum and maximum temperatures are being recorded in the state. The cold will be felt especially in the Terai and plains. According to the standards of the Meteorological Department, when the maximum temperature in the plains drops to 10 degrees Celsius or less and is below normal by 4.5 to 6.4 degrees Celsius, it is called Cold Day. On the other hand, if the maximum temperature drops to 6.5 degrees Celsius or more than normal, then the condition of serious cold day is considered.

According to the IMD, from late night to early morning, most parts of the state will have dense to very dense fog. Visibility can be less than 50 meters in many places. This is likely to affect road, rail and air traffic. The Meteorological Department says that on the first day, cold day conditions are likely to be created in many districts of East and Central Uttar Pradesh with dense fog. Very dense fog may also cover some districts.

On the other hand, the effect of cold will continue in large parts of the state on the second day as well. In many districts, the situation of cold day and some serious cold day may continue. Dense fog can affect traffic in the morning. Whereas on the third day also the chances of relief from cold and fog are less. Especially in the Terai areas, very dense fog and chills may remain.

The Meteorological Department has advised the general public not to go out unnecessarily in the morning and late at night, wear warm clothes, take special care of the elderly and children. Drivers have been appealed to drive at a slow speed during fog, use fog lights and maintain a safe distance.
