A sudden political development unfolded in Thailapuram on Wednesday when V. K. Sasikala met S. Ramadoss, founder of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), at his residence near Tindivanam in Villupuram district. The meeting lasted for more than half an hour, drawing attention across Tamil Nadu’s political circles.

The interaction comes at a time when alliance equations ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are shifting rapidly. The meeting between Sasikala and Ramadoss is being viewed as politically significant amid the evolving landscape.

Sasikala visited Ramadoss in person at his Thailapuram residence near Tindivanam earlier in the day. According to sources familiar with the development, the discussion continued for over 30 minutes. Political observers say the timing of the meeting has added to speculation about possible realignments in the state.

Within the PMK, differing positions have already been visible. The party’s president, Anbumani Ramadoss, has been working in alignment with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). However, there have been indications of differences in approach between him and founder Ramadoss. As the Assembly election approaches, the Ramadoss camp has so far not formally aligned with any political front. The meeting with Sasikala took place even as Ramadoss has not announced any final decision regarding alliances.

Earlier, Sasikala — a close associate of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa — had announced her plan to launch a new political party. Marking that move, she introduced the party’s new flag at a public meeting held in Pasumpon on February 24, coinciding with Jayalalithaa’s birth anniversary.

Against the backdrop of Sasikala’s renewed political entry and internal differences within the PMK, Wednesday’s meeting has triggered fresh discussion in political circles. The development has raised questions about whether it could mark the beginning of a new political alignment.

With the Assembly election drawing closer, the consultation is expected to influence both the next steps of the PMK and Sasikala’s political trajectory in Tamil Nadu. Observers say the outcome of such engagements could play a role in reshaping alliance strategies in the months ahead.
