Singapore Police Rule Out Foul Play in Zubeen Garg’s Death, Despite Assam SIT Murder Charges
While Assam Police have named four accused in a murder chargesheet, Singapore authorities say investigations so far do not indicate foul play, with a Coroner’s Inquiry slated for early 2026.
While the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam police have filed chargesheet regarding the death of Zubeen Garg recently and named four accused for murder, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) have recently said that they do not suspect any foul play behind the death of the iconic singer.
Garg died in Singapore on September 19 under mysterious circumstances triggering huge outcry in Assam with millions of people demanding justice for Zubeen Garg.
The SIT of the Assam Police has so far arrested seven persons and recorded statements of over 300 witnesses regarding the case relating to the death of Zubeen Garg.
In a statement issued by the Public Affairs Department of SPF on Thursday it stated that it is committed to conducting a thorough and professional investigation into the passing of Zubeen Garg. "We urge the public not to speculate and spread unverified information," said the Singapore Police Force in a statement issued on Thursday.
"The SPF is aware of online speculation regarding the circumstances of Garg's death, and that the Indian media has reported that a Special Investigation Team in India has charged four persons for the murder of Garg. The case is currently still being investigated by the SPF, in accordance with the Singapore Coroners Act 2010. Based on our investigations so far, the SPF does not suspect foul play in the death of Garg," the statement issued by SPF said.
"Upon completion of the SPF's investigations, the findings will be submitted to the State Coroner in Singapore, who will hold a Coroner's Inquiry ("CI"). The CI is currently scheduled for January and February 2026," the SPF statement said. A CI is a fact-finding process led by the coroner to establish the cause and circumstances of death. Its findings will be made public upon conclusion.
"We seek the patience and understanding of the parties involved. Meanwhile, we urge the public not to speculate and spread unverified information," they said
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the CID in Assam filed the charge sheet regarding the death of singer Zubeen Garg in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Guwahati. The SIT filed the over 2500-page chargesheet.
