SpiceJet flight to Pune sees window frame come loose mid-air, airline says there was no safety risk
A SpiceJet Q400 flight from Goa to Pune sparked alarm among passengers after a window frame came loose mid-air. The airline later assured that the incident posed no safety risk.;

On Tuesday, a window frame unexpectedly came loose on a SpiceJet flight from Goa to Pune, causing tension and panic among the passengers. Many people on board were clearly shaken by the unexpected incident, even though no one was hurt and the cabin pressure remained normal.
In a statement, SpiceJet said, "A cosmetic window frame on one of SpiceJet’s Q400 aircraft became loose during flight and was found dislodged. It is important to note that this was a non-structural trim component, fitted onto the window for the purpose of shade, and did not compromise the safety or integrity of the aircraft in any way." The airline added that cabin pressure remained stable throughout the flight and that the frame was fixed upon landing as per standard maintenance procedures.
SpiceJet also explained that the Q400 aircraft model has multiple window layers, including a durable, pressure-bearing outer pane, ensuring passenger safety even if a superficial part comes loose.
The incident gained attention after a passenger shared a video on social media platform X, writing, "#SpiceJet from Goa to Pune today. The whole interior window assembly just fell off mid-flight. And this flight is now supposed to take off and head to Jaipur. Wonder if it’s airworthy.." The post tagged aviation safety regulator DGCA.
Mandar Sawant, a passenger on the flight, described the scene to *The Indian Express*. “I was travelling back from Goa to Pune after attending an event. A woman was sitting behind me with a baby. Half an hour after takeoff, the window (next to her) just popped out. She was scared, and it was deeply concerning," he said. "There is a protective layer behind the window that shields us from the outside elements, and that was intact. But still—this should not happen."
He added, “The flight attendants tried to calm us down. They moved the woman and her child to another seat at the back. One of the stewardesses managed to push the window frame back in place, but it looked like any sudden movement could have dislodged it again.”
